Desmond Tutu Discuss Peace Talks in the Middle East

Tuesday November 27Th started the beginning of Peace Talks for the Middle East. Although hosted in the US, many Israelis and Palestians rallied against such talks--leading to injuries and death on both sides.
Please either read, listen to, or stream (prefer the latter two to get a better sense of the speaker) the speech given by Desmond Tutu. Next, share your findings, questions, and hopes for next steps in for the Peace talks. The premise of Tutu's speech is for Israel to learn from South African Apartheid. I also want you to comment on your awareness level of the talks--where you aware that these talks were happening? If so, why? If not, why? And what does your answer say (if anything) about your intercultural growth?

THE IRON WALL

Use this space to discuss the film, The Iron Wall. How/Did this film add to your knowledge of the conflict? Were you aware of the conflict prior to this class? Reading about this conflict often stirs up emotions that can be intense. Do not turn away from these emotions, try to name them, and if possible formulate questions that challenge both yourself and others.

Bigot in the Brain (READ THE LINKED ARTICLE)
Implicit Prejudice and implicit bias runs deep in our brains, influencing everything from the person we hire, the people we feel most comfortable with (but don't know why), how we interpret others nonverbal communication, to how we interpret situations presented by people of varying ethnicities....
Read the article and then respond THOUGHTFUL, INSIGHTFUL suggestions of ways you think one could move towards quieting the "bigot in the brain."
